The
white, two-story lodge faces east and fronts the calm caribbean.
Guests will enjoy
the great expanse of beach. Swimmers will appreciate the
gentle surf, and snorklers will delight in the large coral
reef which angles in toward the beach right in front of
the lodge.
The
newly constructed lodge is a small but impressive structure
and is nicely decorated with original art. The lodge was
designed as a "low environmental impact" facility,
and therefor employs solar panels and a windmill for electricity
generation. Regular 110-volt power is not availiable, but
electricity is stored in 12-volt batteries for powering
bedside reading lights.
Meals
are sumptuous family style breakfast and dinner with box
lunches served on board. Meals include fresh lobster and
crab in season. Punta
Pelicano has beer and domestic mixed drinks available at
the lodge.
From the lodges breezy balcony, guests enjoy a commanding
view of the Caribbean. Its completely private setting assures
a peaceful, invigorating atmosphere. Three double-occupancy
rooms accommodate a total of six guests. Each
room has a private dressing room with a sink, but shares
a common bath.
Punta
Pelicano Lodge and the waters of Ascension Bay are located
within the Sian Ka'an Bioshere Reserve, a United Nations
Wildlife Preserve. Apart from the bountiful game fish, visitors
to the lodge will also marvel at the plethora of bird species,
including roseated spoonbills, flamingos, pelicans, heron,
osprey, egrets and many others. Sea turtles and aligators
are also seen time to time.
